About
Scott Coombes is Director and Partner of AESG, an industry-leading specialist consultancy in the Middle East and Europe offering design and engineering services in sustainable development, net-zero advisory, building performance analysis, façades and façade maintenance, fire and life safety, MEP advisory, vertical transportation and acoustics.
With an honours degree in Architecture from the University of Nottingham, Scott has specific expertise on the subject of sustainable development and passive design. He has been a resident of Dubai for 30 years and witnessed one of the world’s most remarkable cities grow from a low-rise community to one to the world’s tallest urban developments. This first-hand experience of fast-paced, high-rise construction has fuelled Scott’s passion for sustainable architecture, which has formed the basis of his career and his involvement in a variety of ambitious developments across the Middle East.
Scott’s project experience includes managing and directing the design and construction of numerous cutting-edge and award-winning developments, including commercial and residential towers, large-scale mixed-use developments, masterplans, critical infrastructure, airports and hospitality projects. Scott’s specific high-rise involvement has included supporting projects such as the megatall 1,000m Dubai Creek Tower, the 420m Marina 101 tower, the ICD Brookfield Place in Dubai’s Financial Centre, the RasGas headquarters in Doha, the ENOC tower in Downtown Dubai, and the Marasi Waterfront project and Address Hotel in Dubai Creek Harbour.
Across the last seven years, Scott has been at the forefront of AESG’s growth into a unique and leading multidisciplinary specialist consultancy, which has influenced the design and construction of hundreds of noteworthy projects. Since its establishment, the firm has developed a strong reputation for delivering high-quality consultancy services and has received numerous awards, including the Middle East Specialist Consultancy of the Year and the Middle East Sustainability Consultancy of the Year. Scott is committed to cementing AESG’s position as a global market leader in their field, and has led the company to become one of the first UAE-incubated engineering firms to penetrate global markets.
As well as his role at AESG, Scott is Chairman of the American University in Dubai’s (AUD’s) Advisory Board under the School of Architecture, Art and Design. As such, Scott often gives lectures at regional universities and acts as a juror to final-year students. He believes that there is huge value in educating and inspiring young designers, which is an undertaking the CTBUH committee may consider embracing to help further build global awareness of the Council and better engage the designers of tomorrow. In addition to his involvement in academia, Scott is also regularly involved in industry events as a keynote speaker, often delivering presentations and moderating panel discussions.
