About John Viise

John Viise has been providing structural services for high-rise and special-use structures throughout the world for the past 22+ years. Prior to joining Thornton Tomasetti (TT) as a Vice President in the Chicago office, Mr. Viise was an Associate Principal with Halvorson and Partners 9+ years and an Associate with Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM) in Chicago and London for 14 years, where he was a lead design engineer and Project Engineer on a number of international projects. Select design experience of Mr. Viise at SOM includes, Burj Khalifa in Dubai (828 m), Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago (415 m), the Pearl River Tower in Guangzhou (310 m) and the Hong Kong Convention Center. Specifically at H+P, John led design efforts on the CTBUH award winning World Trade Center Abu Dhabi (380 m), the proposed supertall One Dubai Tower (800+ m), and a number of towers throughout China including…

Select design experience of Mr. Viise at SOM includes, Burj Khalifa in Dubai (828 m), Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago (415 m), the Pearl River Tower in Guangzhou (310 m) and the Hong Kong Convention Center. Specifically at H+P, John led design efforts on the CTBUH award winning World Trade Center Abu Dhabi (380 m), the proposed supertall One Dubai Tower (800+ m), and a number of towers throughout China including the Samsung Headquarters Tower under construction in Beijing. John currently is involved in the design of the Dubai 2020 Tower project in Chicago’s TT office.
